Cumberland Falls

South-Central Kentucky - March 1999
Nikon F2 w/Nikkor 35mmPC

Cumberland Falls is difficult to deal with because the falls face north, leaving them without direct sunlight most of the time. After a substantial rain (very necessary), I went to the area, shinnied up a large boulder 100yds downstream that directly faces the falls, waited until the sun was overhead, and got the shot. This might be a good time to mention that many of my images intentionally have the main subject relegated to a small portion of the space, most times 10% or less of the picture area. This allows me room to give the viewer a sense of place, and it also lets me use traditional art techniques to draw the viewer to the focal point.
